Why Embroidery?

Embroidery adds a level of professionalism and durability that no other decoration method can match. Thread stitched directly into the garment creates a textured, three-dimensional look that communicates quality the moment someone sees it — or touches it.

At Pacific North Press, we run our embroidery operation with the same precision and care as our screen printing. From digitizing your artwork for thread to selecting the right stabilizers and thread weights for each garment, every detail is dialed in before a single stitch is made.

How Embroidery Works

From your logo to finished thread work — here's how we produce clean, professional embroidery every time.

01
Artwork Digitizing

Your logo or design is converted into a stitch file — a digital map that tells our embroidery machines exactly where to place each stitch, in what order, and with which thread colors. This is a specialized skill, and we handle it in-house.

02
Thread & Garment Prep

We select the right thread colors to match your brand, choose the appropriate stabilizer (backing) for your garment type, and hoop the garments to keep them taut and aligned during stitching.

03
Embroidery Production

Our multi-head embroidery machines stitch your design directly into each garment. The needles move with precision, building your artwork one stitch at a time. We monitor the run throughout for quality and consistency.

04
Trimming & Finishing

After stitching, we trim all jump threads, remove excess stabilizer from the back, and inspect every piece for stitch quality, thread tension, and overall appearance. Clean finishing is what separates good embroidery from great.

05
Quality Check

Every embroidered piece is individually inspected for stitch accuracy, color consistency, placement, and garment condition before it's approved to ship.

06
Packing & Delivery

Finished orders are folded, counted, packed, and shipped to your door or prepared for local Portland pickup. Need it fast? Ask about rush options.

Common Embroidery
Questions

Everything you need to know before placing your embroidery order. Don't see your question? Give us a call.

What is the minimum order for embroidery?
Our minimum for embroidery is 12 pieces. This keeps the per-unit cost reasonable since embroidery involves digitizing setup, thread changes, and individual garment hooping.
What file format do you need for embroidery?
We prefer vector files (AI, EPS, SVG) or high-resolution PNG/JPG files. We'll handle the digitizing — converting your artwork into a stitch file optimized for thread. There's no need to provide a pre-digitized file unless you already have one.
How detailed can embroidery get?
Embroidery works best with clean, bold designs. Very fine details, thin lines, and tiny text can be challenging to reproduce clearly in thread. We'll review your artwork and let you know if any adjustments would improve the final result.
Is embroidery more durable than screen printing?
In terms of longevity, embroidery is essentially permanent — thread stitched into fabric won't fade, crack, or peel over time. It's the most durable decoration method available, which is why it's the standard for workwear and corporate apparel.
Can you embroider hats and caps?
Absolutely. We embroider a wide range of headwear including structured and unstructured caps, trucker hats, beanies, bucket hats, and visors. Hat embroidery requires specialized framing, and we have the equipment to handle it properly.
How much does embroidery cost?
Embroidery pricing depends on the stitch count (design complexity), number of thread colors, garment type, and quantity. Larger orders bring the per-unit cost down. Request a quote with your design and quantity for exact pricing.
